If you’re an adult with crooked teeth, you’ve probably assumed the only orthodontic solution for you is wearing traditional metal braces for the next few years before you can enjoy a beautifully straight smile.
That couldn’t be further from the truth! At Lapalco Family Dental in Marrero, LA, we offer two options that can give you straighter teeth in half the time. This is perfect for adults who don’t want to look like a teenager during treatment or who don’t have time to deal with the hassle of frequent, inconvenient dental appointments.
That’s why we’re answering two of the most common questions patients have about adult orthodontics in our Marrero dental office.
Common Question #1: What are the advantages of short term braces?
The most obvious advantage of short term orthodontics is just that: a shorter duration of treatment. Adults have busy lives with work and kids. The last thing you want to deal with are a steady stream of maintenance appointments to get your braces tightened. You also want to get your treatment out of the way so you can move on to other things.
If your bite alignment is fine and your teeth are otherwise in healthy shape, you can opt for a faster solution, and possibly one that only focuses on the front teeth that show when you smile.
Another advantage of our orthodontic treatment options is that they are much more discreet than traditional braces. A teen will wear metal braces for a couple of years, and it’s no big deal because most of their friends are wearing them, too. It’s almost like a rite of passage.
But when you’re an adult, you need a method of treatment that isn’t so obvious. You want to be able to speak to potential clients or impress your supervisor at work with your great ideas. Metal braces might make it hard for you to feel like you’re being taken seriously on a professional level. Our ClearCorrect and Six Month Smiles options allow adults to get the straighter smile they’ve always wanted in half the time and in a less noticeable way.
Common Question #2: How do I know which treatment is best for me?
There are a few factors you need to consider when choosing either ClearCorrect or Six Month Smiles. Our team of specialists will make sure your mouth is as healthy as possible before starting your orthodontic treatment.
You also would need to discuss your smile goals with Dr. Landry, plus any other dental concerns you might be having. With ClearCorrect, you have the advantage of using clear, plastic aligners that you can take out when you brush, floss, and eat, which make good oral hygiene and social outings easier and more enjoyable. With Six Month Smiles, you wear clear brackets and tooth-colored wires only on those teeth that show when you smile, so the treatment doesn’t take as long as traditional braces.
But the only way to know for sure which of our treatments is right for you is by visiting Lapalco Family Dental for an examination with Dr. Landry. We will do all we can to help you achieve the straight, attractive smile you’ve been wanting for a long time. It’s just a phone call away!

You are an adult. You are a professional, and you are advancing in your career.
You want to take the next step, and you know that an opening will be available in your department within the next year or so.
And yet … you would be hesitant to apply if a position came open today.
It’s not because of your work. You have been told repeatedly that your bosses appreciate what you are doing.
It’s not because of your work ethic. You make it a point to get your work done on time.
It’s because of your teeth. You know that moving up means more face-to-face interaction with clients, and you worry that your teeth (which aren’t as straight as you would like) may be a distraction during meetings.
You could let your opinion of your teeth hold you back. You could move forward in spite of your discomfort
Or you could call Lapalco Family Dental if you live in or near Marrero, LA. We offer two kinds of short-term orthodontic treatments in our office that could help you feel more comfortable with your smile.
Which Option Is Right For You?
We offer two kinds of short-term “braces” in our practices. (You will understand the quotation marks as you read on.)
ClearCorrect and Six-Month Smiles both offer effective ways to improve the appearance of your smile. We will explain the differences between them in a moment.
Our dentist can go into greater detail about them if you schedule a consultation at our office. When he understands what you would like to do, he can help you decide the right option for you.
For now, we’ll focus on the features that set each of these treatments apart from traditional braces.
► If Discretion Is Important
As a working adult, we can understand why you may not want to get traditional metal braces.
It’s hard to conceal the fact that you are wearing them, and the brackets and wires could make you feel self-conscious when in meetings, where they are with clients or co-workers.
If this is a concern, then we may recommend ClearCorrect instead. This kind of treatment has sometimes been called clear braces although it does not involve any brackets or wires.
Getting ClearCorrect starts when we scan your mouth, take pictures, and make impressions, all of which are sent to ClearCorrect. There team with use computer-aided design to create a series of plastic aligners for you to wear.
Each aligner is made of a transparent plastic that makes them virtually undetectable while you are wearing them. This means you can go through your orthodontic treatment without calling attention to what you are doing.
ClearCorrect also offers some other benefits over traditional braces. For starters, you can remove your aligners during meals and when brushing and flossing your teeth. This means you can continue to eat all the foods that you like during your treatment, and you won’t need any special tools to make sure nothing gets caught between your braces and your teeth.
► If Speed Is Your Priority
On the other hand, you may prefer to get your treatment completed is as little time as possible. In that case, we may recommend Six-Month Smiles instead.
Six-Month Smiles are more like traditional braces, but as the name implies they work in less time.
Traditional braces take about two years to finish moving your teeth on average. Six-Months Smile takes an average of six months. (The actual length of either treatment could be longer or shorter depending on your specific alignment issues.)
Six-Month Smiles uses ceramic brackets. While these are not as transparent as ClearCorrect aligners, they are less attention-grabbing than metal brackets.
The reason Six-Month Smiles can work so quickly is because they are focused on the teeth in the front of your mouth. Traditional braces are used to move all your teeth, including the bigger, heavier molars in the back of your mouth.
By focusing on the smaller, lighter, and most visible teeth, we can transform the appearance of your smile is less time.
If you would prefer to complete to save time on your treatment, this may be the best option for you.
