Do you ever look up at the stars in our night sky? It’s amazing how they constantly look bright and white. Unfortunately the same is not always true for your smile. Any number of lifestyle factors and dietary factors can darken your smile. So how do you brighten it? Check out the infographic about professional teeth whitening treatments.

June is considered the start of “wedding season,” and you may be attending a wedding or two over the next few months.
If one of those weddings is yours, our team at Lapalco Family Dental wants to wish you many years of love and happiness.
No matter whose wedding it is (yours, a relative’s, a friend’s, or a coworker’s), you can count on one thing — lots of pictures.
Even if you aren’t in the wedding party, you can be sure that your photo will be taken many times thanks to the constant presence of camera phones. You also can be sure that your photos will be shared with hundreds, if not thousands, of people through social media.
If you live in Marrero, Harvey, or anywhere in between, we invite you to get camera-ready with the professional teeth whitening that we provide at our Louisiana dental center.
Don’t Take Chances With Your Smile
You will want to look your best, especially if you are in the wedding party. That’s truer if you are the bride or the groom.
Think about everything you do to get ready for a wedding. You have to pick out a nice outfit (wedding dress, tuxedo, etc.). Many people carefully pick out the jewelry they will wear and plan months in advance when and how they will have their hair styled.
Your smile is an important part of how you look, too. If you are planning to whiten your teeth, you will want your teeth to be bright and white, not off-white.
For the best results, you need professional teeth whitening. In a short time, you can see a huge improvement in the color of your teeth by using these products, which are not available at your local grocery store.
Commercial Vs. Professional Whitening
We can appreciate the convenience of commercial whitening products. It really would be nice if you could go to the nearest store, walk down the toothpaste aisle, and pick up a product the will give you sparkling white teeth.
Television commercials for these products would suggest that they can work wonders, but the truth is a little less miraculous. According to WebMD, the best results you can expect from most commercial products is teeth that are about three shades whiter. Not all commercial products are that effective.
On the other hand, professional whitening products can lighten your teeth by up to eight shades. That is a significant improvement above and beyond what you can expect from any retail teeth whitening product.
Why is there such a difference between these two kinds of whitening products?
It’s basically the same reason we use fire hoses instead of garden hoses to fight fires. Both kinds of hoses use the same thing (water), but one is using more of it, which makes it more powerful.
Professional whitening is to commercial whitening what the fire hose is to the garden hose.
The difference between commercial and professional whitening is largely based on the concentration of the whitening agent in each product.
Some commercial products may have a 10 percent concentration of the whitening agent. In contrast, professional whitening products can have concentrations of 35 percent or more.
That also explains why professional products are available through dentist offices and not grocery stores.
In our practice, we use Boost whitening. We offer both in-office and do-it-yourself whitening products.
Our in-office whitening procedure is the fastest way to improve the appearance of your teeth. Our dentist, Dr. Landry, has said you can come to see us on a Thursday and your smile will look better for a wedding on Friday with our in-office treatment.
If you have a little more time, then you may want to try our take-home product instead. We will create a custom-fitted tray for you to use. When it’s ready, we will give it to you along with whitening gel and instructions on how to use them.
When done correctly, you can see big improvements in the whiteness of your teeth in just a few days.
Get White For The Wedding
Whether the next wedding you attend is yours or someone else’s, you can look your best with the help of professional teeth whitening. You’ll be happy to show off your smile whether it’s for a formal portrait or a selfie.

Spring has arrived.
This means a lot of things, but for many families, it’s time for spring cleaning. This is a good time of year to go through our homes and garages to figure out what to keep and what to let go.
Many people also use this as a time to remove the accumulated dirt from the past year (or more) on the outside of their homes.
So, why not take a similar approach to your oral care? (We are assuming that you want to keep your teeth.)
If you haven’t already scheduled your next cleaning and examination at Lapalco Family Dental, call our dentist office in Marrero, LA, today. When you do, why not take your cleaning one step further and have your teeth whitened at the same time?
Start With The Basics
Dental hygiene is essential for your oral health.
You need to brush your teeth twice per day every day, and you need to brush for two minutes every time you brush. You should floss your teeth every day, too, to remove as many bacteria and as much plaque as possible.
You should also make plans to visit our office at least twice a year for cleanings and examinations.
No matter how well you brush and floss, it’s always a good idea to have professional cleanings, too. We will remove any plaque or tartar buildup that you may have missed.
We also will take X-rays of your teeth to check for any changes in your alignment and to identify places where cavities may be forming.
Keep in mind that your visits are about fixing problems when they are small and preventing them whenever possible. This is why we offer fluoride treatments as well.
Fluoride helps to keep your teeth healthy. It strengthens the enamel on the outside of your teeth, and it can repair enamel that has received minor damage.
Take Your Smile To The Next Level
Even if your teeth are perfectly healthy they may not be perfectly white.
As we get older, our teeth naturally will become less bright and less white. Every cup of coffee, every glass of tea, every meal that you eat has a small effect on your teeth.
Those stains can build slowly and gradually for decades until you realize your pearly white aren’t so white anymore.
To help your teeth look as healthy as they can, we offer professional teeth whitening in our office. You can schedule your whitening while you are already visiting us for your next cleaning.
We use Boost whitening products in our office.
If you told us today that your teeth needed to be whiter for an event tomorrow, than Boost in-office treatments would be the way to go. You will notice a significant improvement to your smile in a single visit to our office.
To take your whitening to the next level, we can provide you with one of Boost’s take-home products. These include a bleaching agent and trays that you can wear overnight.
That’s right. You can whiten your teeth while you sleep.
What About Commercial Whitening?
Can commercial products work? Some work better than others, but none of them work as well as professional whitening products.
The difference is sort of like the difference between a fire hose and your garden hose. Both of them use water, but one gets a lot more power out of it.
Professional and commercial whitening products often use the same active ingredients, but professional products have a much higher concentration of that ingredient. This is why they are available through dentists and not at the grocery store.
There’s another way to look at the difference between professional and commercial whitening products. Imagine each product is a long distance runner.
In a little over two hours, a world-class runner can complete the entire marathon. Recreational runners may only cover half, one-third, or even less of that distance in that same amount of time.
That’s sort of the same way professional whitening products, like Boost, can give you better results in the same amount of time (and often in less time) when compared to commercial products.
Do Something For Your Teeth
You can’t deny that your teeth have been an important part of your life. As long as you have had them, they have helped you bite into and chew up the foods that you eat.
Your teeth are the main attraction in your smile, so why not include them in this year’s spring cleaning.

White teeth make any smile look better.
Yet, it’s an unfortunate fact of life that maintaining a white smile is more difficult as we get older. Every cup of coffee we sip, every plate of spaghetti we eat, every tea we drink adds to the stains on our teeth.
You may have seen all the whitening products in the toothpaste aisle and wondered if they could work for you. You might have tried a few, too.
If you really want to whiten your teeth, then make plans to visit Lapalco Family Dental. We have two solutions that will give you a noticeably whiter, brighter smile — professional teeth whitening and veneers.
If you live in Marrero, Henry, or anywhere else in or near Jefferson Parish, we would love to talk to you about these options at our dentist office.
The Benefits Of A White Smile
We all know how white teeth improve the appearance of your smile.
But have you considered the psychological benefits.
If your teeth are yellow or discolored, then you may become self-conscious about your teeth. You may feel the need to hide your smile when someone takes your photo — and that could happen at any moment thanks to camera phones.
Plus, that photo can end up online almost as soon as it’s been taken. Fair or not, people are judging you based on your smile. By hiding your teeth, you may come across as sad or angry.
A whiter smile could help you feel more relaxed. Maybe that’s why 68 percent of women said that their smile affects their confidence, according to a survey conducted by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. That could also explain why teeth whitening remains one of the most popular forms of cosmetic dentistry.
If you are ready to whiten your smile, you can consider at Lapalco Family Dental.
Teeth whitening products are supposed to do one thing: remove the stains from your teeth.
These stains can come from poor oral hygiene, from the things you eat and drink, or from using tobacco.
You could try an over-the-counter toothpaste, mouth rinse, strips, or gel product, which could take weeks or months to show some improvement. Or you could try a Boost in-office whitening treatment at our dentist office to get results in one day.
Both commercial and professional whitening products use comparable ingredients, but professional products have a higher concentration of those active ingredients. That’s why professional whitening is both faster and more effective than anything you can buy at a retail store.
A good comparison would be someone who has stains on the siding of his or her house. When our homeowner decides it’s time to clean up, he or she could use a garden hose with one of those spray attachments. If he or she waits long enough, that will probably remove the dirt and grime eventually.
Or he or she could use a pressure washer, which will peel the dirt off in a lot less time.
Think of Boost like a pressure washer for the stains on your teeth.
Now, if you want to whiten your teeth on your own schedule, Boost also makes a take-home product, which we can provide for you. This doesn’t work as quickly as our in-office product, but it will give you much better results than commercial options.
Teeth whitening is an excellent option for people who have stained teeth. Not all teeth are discolored because of stains, however.
In some cases, you teeth can look yellower because of worn down enamel, a reaction to medication, or tooth decay. Stain removal is not going to fix those problems, but porcelain veneers will.
To go back to our house analogy, let’s say something serious happened on the side of the house, say something caught fire and burned part of the siding. Spraying that with a hose or even a pressure washer is not going to fix the problem.
Instead, the homeowner can restore the appearance of his or her house with new siding. Veneers are like siding for your teeth.
Veneers are bonded to the front of your teeth, and they can completely change the appearance of your smile. Veneers make your teeth look whiter, and they can make your teeth look straighter, close any gaps between your teeth, and repair chipped or broken teeth.
Your Smile, Only Better
If you are tired of having not-so-pearly whites, talk to our dentist at Lapalco Family Dental in Marrero, LA. Together we can determine whether teeth whitening or porcelain veneers could help you and your smile.

Do you want to have a brilliant, dazzling smile? Of course you do. At Lapalco Family Dental in Marrero, LA we offer Professional Teeth Whitening to give you just that. In today’s blog post, we’re going to explain some of the reasons why your teeth get stained, which foods and beverages stain your teeth, and reasons why you should choose Professional Teeth Whitening.
Why Aren’t My Teeth White?
Discolored teeth can be extremely frustrating to our patients. They stress to us that they always brush their teeth, and have no cavities. They don’t understand why their teeth aren’t as white as they once where.
The truth is as you grow older, teeth can naturally become yellow or otherwise discolored. This can be caused by a whole host of things, including genetics. Other potential causes include certain prescription medications, smoking or chewing tobacco, and certain foods and drinks.
The good news is that you don’t have to live with discolored teeth.
At Lapalco Family Dental in Marrero, LA, we offer a wide variety of cosmetic dentistry services. One of our most popular services is Professional Teeth Whitening, a quick procedure which can dramatically improve the appearance of your smile in about an hour.
Which Foods and Beverages Stain My Teeth?
There’s a pretty general rule of thumb to remember if you’re concerned about teeth stains. Basically, any food or beverage that can stain your clothes can stain your teeth. Frustratingly enough, many of the foods and drinks that can stain your teeth aren’t even bad for you.
Consider red wine for instance. Many doctors believe drinking a glass of red wine in the evening can benefit your health. But sadly, that’s far from true regarding the health of your teeth.
Red wine is made from grapes; as a result the wine is filled with natural dyes from the fruit. This dyes can literally dye your teeth as well. The resulting stains may not be red like the wine; but even after vigorously brushing a yellowish stain can gradually start to appear.
Does that mean that white wine is a better choice? Not necessarily.
All wine is filled with tannins. Tannins are a polyphenol found in fruits skins, trees, plants, and seeds. Red wine gets it’s tannins from grape skins; white white contains tannins from being aged in wooden barrels. If you’ve ever taken a wine-tasting course, you know that tannins help add to the flavor, dryness, and complexity of wine.
But what do tannins have to do with the whiteness of your teeth? Tannins are essentially sticky. They stick to your teeth and attract all sorts of residue from other foods and beverages. This residue can then stain your teeth.
Why Choose Professional Teeth Whitening?
You could find about a dozen or more over-the-counter whitening products at any given pharmacy or grocery store. All of the them promise to give you a brighter smile, and whiter teeth. But the frustrating truth is that many of these products don’t deliver their advertised results. Some these products can even damage and irritate your gums.
Professional Teeth Whitening is different. Before we even begin, we ensure it’s safe for you to undergo Professional Teeth Whitening. Sometimes we will need to treat gum disease or correct tooth decay before begin Professional Teeth Whitening. We will also design a treatment plan for you if you have veneers, crowns, or other implements in your mouth.
Once we start Professional Teeth Whitening, it works, and it’s specially designed not to irritate your gums. We offer two types of Professional Teeth Whitening: In-Office treatment and Take-home treatment. In-office treatment works so fast, it allows you to leave the office with significantly whiter teeth. Take-home treatment takes a little longer to work, but is also amazingly effective.
