Emergency Dentistry – Marrero, LA

Dental Care Right When You Need It

Dental emergencies can happen at any time, and it’s important to have a dentist that you can rely on. Marrero, LA dentist Dr. C.J. Landry provides dental emergency services and immediate treatment for knocked-out teeth, loose or missing fillings, broken dentures and dental appliances, bleeding gums, and soft tissue injuries.

Our policy for dental emergencies here at Lapalco Family Dental is if you have an emergency or need urgent care, we’re going to see you. There’s never been a time when we’ve told patients, “I’m sorry, we can’t get you in today,” or, “We’ll see you three weeks from next Monday.” We’ll always get you in and get you out of pain. If a front tooth falls out or a crown falls out, that’s an aesthetic emergency. Maybe there is no pain, but we know that you don’t want to go to work or spend the weekend without your front tooth.

Dr. Landry carries his cellphone twenty-four hours a day. He is always available when needed. His cell phone number is on the answering machine at the office. If you call on a weekend or at night and you have a problem, it’ll tell you to call Dr. Landry on his cell phone, and he’ll always answer it.

How to Handle Common Dental Emergencies

There are two different types of dental emergencies: sudden injuries or issues that develop over time. At Lapalco Family Dental, we are prepared to treat both kinds of emergencies and get you out of pain as soon as possible. However, it’s also important to know what to do even before you can get to our office, which is why we’ve included the next steps for some of the most common dental emergencies below:

Toothache

A toothache is often caused by a large cavity or deep infection and can also be caused by trauma, fracture, or impaction. For temporary pain relief, take an over the counter painkiller like Motrin or Advil. Do not take aspirin as it can worsen any bleeding. Rinse your mouth gently with mouthwash or warm water to flush away food particles or debris.

Chipped/Broken Tooth

The chances of re-attaching a broken or knocked-out tooth are higher the sooner you see us (ideally within minutes after the incident). Hold the broken portion of the tooth by the crown (the top) and rinse it gently under running water to remove any dirt. Place it back in its socket and hold it there with clean gauze if possible, or place it in a container with milk or saltwater.

Knocked-Out Tooth

If one of your teeth gets knocked out, carefully pick it up by the crown so you don’t damage the roots. Rinse it off gently and put it in water or milk to keep it moist. If possible, you can try placing it back in its socket, holding it steady with your tongue. Use gauze for any bleeding and a cold compress to prevent swelling as well as numb pain. Once you’ve made yourself a little more comfortable, contact our office immediately. If you can see Dr. Landry within an hour or so of your dental emergency in Marrero, he may be able to replant your tooth.

Lost Filling/Crown

While dental emergencies can never be completely prevented, there are some steps you can take to minimize your risk of one occurring:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each session to prevent cavities and tooth decay.
  • Use fluoridated toothpaste to strengthen your enamel.
  • Floss once a day to remove lingering food debris from in between your teeth.
  • Wear a mouthguard during sports or physical activity to protect your smile.
  • Visit our office for routine checkups and cleanings with Dr. Landry to catch any dental issues early on.
  • Don’t use your teeth for anything other than eating and speaking.
  • Avoid chewing on non-food items or using your teeth as tools.

The Cost of Treating Dental Emergencies

No two smiles or dental emergencies are the same, which is why the cost of your treatment will vary based on the specific problem you’re dealing with. The only way to get a precise cost estimate is to contact our office to come in for an appointment. Dr. Landry is committed to providing his patients with high-quality dentistry that is also affordable. He accepts dental insurance, has alternative financing available, and he has an in-house savings plan for those without coverage.
